Summer is over...

I could read in several blogs that summer is over with the horrible thing: the first day of the school year.... Yes, I feel the same. Another school year, everyone is sad to start again, summer is over, evenings colder, my allergy is on high level....
So it is time to show you my summer wreath (it is still on the door.... just a bit more of the feeling.... I will not change it till the real autumn with the falling leaves etc.... actually I do not like that part very much)
So this is a bit of summer with the help of Tilda. I changed the sizes but left the pattern...

Born today....

As you could read in the last post I was nearly frozen when my colleague saved me.....
She gave me bed and pyjamas and a warm smile. She saved me....
To show my gratitude I sewed her this tiny Dream angel (as I call her). She is a Tildas design. My colleague (let's call her M) has a wonderful bedroom with cream carpet, orange-red walls and white furniture. (sometimes some grey-black electric things, too)
That's why I chose orange fabric for the clothes and cream for the body. The moon is cream and the stars are grey.
To show you how tiny she is I took a picture of her when she was standing in the tulip bunch... She will go to M on Thursday, I hope they will like each other.

Still happy in the new year

As you know I had serious problems with timing and finishing things before Christmas.... I could not show you too many things. But finally I have finished our door hanger (it wanted to be a wreath but now I am not sure...) I am happy it is not too 'Christmasy' as I do not want to put it away so I think it will hang there till spring.... I wanted to put on a gingerbread man (of a dyed fabric from my drawer) but I changed my mind. I am still thinking about it so maybe next year they will get a new friend.... Who knows?


And my Christmas presents.... I got lost of wonderful and beautiful things....Angels were very kind this year (too), I do not know if I were this good...hmm.... I do not think so....I am sure my best friend talked to the angels before shopping, so they could buy these things for me... (or make or wrap?)

Bears from the theatre

I have finished the bears today. This is a project like the giraffes. I still have 4 students who leave school this year. They are my drama students from the Erich Kästner story. I wanted to make them small presents, too. I have chosen a Tildas design, the bears. As they have scarves they look like criticals in the theatre...And what is better for a drama student after a performance?

I hope they will like them.... (I am going to meet them on Friday)

Muffins

So we made that play with my colleagues..... In the theatre here there is a tradition: the premier gifts. I wanted to play theatre and we did, so I decided to play it well.

That is why I made little gifts to the others.

The title of the play is "The Grandma", so I started brainstorming on grandmas.... The first thing came to my mind were cookies (I don't exactly know why as my Grandmas couldn't bake...). I found a beautiful pattern in a Tildas book, the muffins. (OK, I know they are not muffins but I call them like that...) First I machine embroidered the side part. I wrote the name of the author, the play, and the character they played plus the date. It sounds too much but I wrote (I mean embroidered) small letters.






Then I put some pot pourri in. You know, I love 'useful things'.
I had to make 19 muffins which took a lot of time, but my colleagues were so happy I would do it again.

Textile box

I bought 3 beautiful fabrics and I had to cut into one of them. I just wanted to have something immediately. I have found this pattern in a Tildas book, so I made this box for myself. I use little handmade flashcards in teaching and it is always a problem to keep them organized. This box is going to be on the top of my desk and it is going to be a nice place for the cards.

Dachshund

Yesterday we had our topic meeting. As you know I am a member of a doll making topic. Our topic had its birthday this week, so we organized our first meeting for this weekend.

It was a really very good one. It is always magic to see your online friends for the first time. We started in a patchwork shop (of course) then we went to the meeting place. We chatted, sewed and ate a lot. Our 'Topic mum' made a speech and we gave and got presents. We decided this present-programme months ago. Everyone who wanted to take part in it made a present. We put a number on each pack and everyone chose a number from a bag. We looked for the present with the same number, opened it and showed it to the others. The extra task was finding out who had made the present.

I wanted to help to the others (as it turned out it was not a huge help for everyone). As they know my favourite colour is orange, I made an orange Tildas dachshund and wrapped it in orange paper....

Here is the doggy I made. I hope the girl who got it was happy with her present.

B's holder

In my family B is the 'lucky' one who has to go to the post office to pay the cheques every month. We usually have problems with them as we are not the tidiest people on Earth... (worse than you imagine.... I am sure) so by the time he will have gone to the post office some of the cheques disappeared. I decided to make a place to keep the cheques in (actually I made the plans 5 years ago, but I always forgot them....). I know he really wanted something, so I made him this Tildas holder this year.

In Hungary we have 'namedays'. The names are listed in the calendar and you get presents on your namedays just like on your birthdays. My B hates his nameday (or maybe only does not like it) because it is on Valentine's day which is a very pink and red day with full of hearts here.... (not that funny one with those unsigned postcards...unfortunately....) This pinky thing is so far from us, but I made him this holder to make him happy. And he was. Now the cheques are in a safe place and we know where they are.

Eili' s rose

I felt so bad I worked on these angels for such a long time I decided to make a little something for Eili. (She was so kind and patient, and wasn't angry with me at all....)
I had just some hours so I made this little Tildas rose....

It is funny. I really do not like pink. But in summer there was a huge bargain in a small shop. They were closing so they sold everything really cheap. It was in a small and dark room, so I didn't see the colours to well. I bought this for the ears of Christmas mice (red ears of course). And when I went out of the shop I realized the fabric was pink. I was not happy at all, but now I really fell in love with this little rose and I thought it suited Eili well.... (I hope she felt the same...:D)

I wanted to post this pic yesterday but I forgot somehow, so I share it with you today.

Eili's angels

It is high time to write about my recent projects. I was very busy last week (I was not totally successful, but I could make some pics to share.)

This is the day of the angels. I have a friend who asked me to make two angels. I started them in November but the very busy Christmas and Advent time stopped this work. I have finished them at the end of January but this weekend they were given to two children. They became guardian angels to be with them when their godmother can't be there (she is my friend.).

They are Tildas design so I loved the work very much. They are the same pattern but it is good to see how different they became at the end. Two different personalities - I think.

First I made the bodies from cotton. I used my favourite cheap IKEA cotton. They looked like this:


I made the wings from the same cotton, but different colour. I used hand stitches to make it more "country" style:

As you can see they are real angels. I could take this photo about them when they were organizing their new nice project. They try to keep it in secret.....
The best thing that the children got their angels during the weekend. As my friend said the bigger one (a little girl) was so happy, she played with it all day. I am very happy to hear this. I have never had a little one to give my dolls to so it is a huge thing for me. It surely made my day happy.

Happy Friday!

Today was another 'reading day' for me as I still one more magazine to read plus I got a 'Happy Friday Present' from my friend, Pungi (the happy owner of the snowman in the pyjamas). This is the new book of my favourite Norwegian designer called 'Tildas hus'.

This was the best part of the day! I also got a beautiful Debbie Mumm fabric from my B which was another huge surprise... It is beautiful, blue, white and red with Santa and polar bears on it and of course beautiful snowflakes. Unfortunately I couldn't find a pic of the fabric, so I cannot show it right now.

So I have a lot to do now. I got inspiration so it is the time of the hand now.

I didn't have time to sew with so much reading but the weekend is coming so I can sew a bit. My 'to do list' is sooo long.

And little snowman, have a happy life with Pungi! (This was the day I saw my friend and gave her the snowman.)

My newest friend

Let me introduce you my newest friend. Actually he is a wish of my best friend who is sick now with awful and long flu, hopefully she is staying in bed at the moment. I promised her when she was a good girl and stayed in bed drinking tea she would get a surprise. This is her surprise for today. Snowman who hopefully cures her, and make her healthy soon.

Actually that's how I looked like last week when I had something very similar. I had a huge red nose then (and it turned orange as I felt better and better), I wore pyjamas (orange ones of course unfortunately without these beautiful checked pattern) and I was not so cute as he but had more hair (luckily I still have more hair).

He is also a Tildas pattern from the Christmas book. I used simple cheap creamy (I am not sure how we call this colour... even using my mother tongue...but it is a mixture of white and yellow) cotton fabric and this checked one which I bought in summer on a sale. I am a bit sad now because I haven't bought enough. I have changed the nose and designed one for myself as I wanted to have it of fabric as well but the original design had something else. It is made of a little piece of very bright orange. For the eyes I used black DMC and made French knots.
He should have a piece of string on his hand as a hanger but I didn't have the perfect string so I skipped this problem.

I hope you like him... Ah and unfortunately we don't have snow.... It is raining outside....Grrrrr.... I don't like this cold rain let's push the 'snow button'!

The fat German lady

There is a forum with lots of doll maker friends. They make beautiful dolls, soft toys and other small things like fruits and veggies.

Once we talked about doll making and agreed that we put a bit of our heart in it. And it is funny how different dolls we can sew of the same template. Soon an idea came: what about using the same template and see how unique dolls we have at the end?

Now we have a template each month, we sew our dolls during that and at the end we show our dolls to each other on the last day. This was our second doll. I was late (I am always late.... I am a "last minute-sewer"...), so I finished her in the middle of September... (As you know the deadline was 31st Aug as this was the doll of August). It is a Tildas design called "bathdamer"... Maybe that is why I called her German lady...

I sew her of (horrible) pink fabric. The green and white striped fabric came from an internet friend who sent me lost of different pieces. I used the same for the cap. There are two mini yoyos on it as well.
I made her bag from an other remain of fabric. I stitched it by machine. Her towel is from terry cloth and the other side of it is a pink and white striped piece.

She has a drink.. You know it is very important to have liquid with you on a hot summer day. The fabric is hand dyed by me, the design is mine, too. The straw is made of something (I don't know what is it exactly, something like stick....) I found in my bunch of flowers. Those flowers were my last birthday pressie.

Finally I am happy with her, she is a funny lady I think. She has no name at the moment, but hopefully once I can find out the right name which suits her....
