Last week

Saturday, February 21, 2009

Last week I sewed some things, it is one of them.

In a clothes' shop I saw this cheap T-shirt. One of my favourite shapes, a very simple black one. I have this in 2 other colours but when I saw the black one I started thinking. I saw a T-shirt with embroidery on it, making it unique and a but more tricky.
I decided to give it a try, so I bought one.

At home I found my special Metzer threads, the black-grey-white one some vlies and started to embroider (free hand stitches or something, sorry I have problems with its English name). I was quite satisfied with the result especially the next day when my colleagues said nice things about it.
I also made a necklace and two earrrings matching my new T-shirt and I was so sorry when I didn't find more of it in the shop.... sigh... maybe next time?

Ah, and again: sorry about the photo I could not take a better one in the room...I had not enough light for the black colour....

Muffins

Saturday, May 17, 2008

So we made that play with my colleagues..... In the theatre here there is a tradition: the premier gifts. I wanted to play theatre and we did, so I decided to play it well.

That is why I made little gifts to the others.

The title of the play is "The Grandma", so I started brainstorming on grandmas.... The first thing came to my mind were cookies (I don't exactly know why as my Grandmas couldn't bake...). I found a beautiful pattern in a Tildas book, the muffins. (OK, I know they are not muffins but I call them like that...) First I machine embroidered the side part. I wrote the name of the author, the play, and the character they played plus the date. It sounds too much but I wrote (I mean embroidered) small letters.

Then I put some pot pourri in. You know, I love 'useful things'.

I had to make 19 muffins which took a lot of time, but my colleagues were so happy I would do it again.

Aren't they cute together?

Ribbons..... today.....: embroidery

Friday, September 21, 2007

Last year I had the chance to go to the countryside and do my favourite hobby: patchwork and other sewing projects.
One of the programmes in the camp was ribbon embroidery. I didn't know what it meant but then I liked it.

I think you have to be very careful with it. As you can use silk, organza or satin ribbons it is very easy to make too fussy projects. Some of the pictures I have seen in books were too tawdry for me. I decided to work with narrow ribbons and not to use too many colours in the same work, make quite small flowers and not to put a lot of them in one picture.

I use satin ribbons only.

My first project was made in the camp, a bunch of flowers with yellow-orange-red colours. I used 6 mm satin ribbons and some DMC. Later I made borders and gave it to my mum as a present.

In the evening of that day I decided to make a small picture to a friend, that is the ghost. I used 12 mm satin ribbons for that. It was not easy to stitch with. I found the pattern in a book called The ABC of ribbon embroidery.

Last Christmas I found a picture which I liked so I stitched something similar, only green and red flowers. I used 6 mm green, 6 and 12 mm red ribbons. Ah and some yellow, too. (Hmmm I totally forgot the yellow part :D). It became a present in my family at Christmas.
